Balance de situación (balance sheet)

The balance de situación is a snapshot of the company at a specific date: what it owns and is owed (assets), what it owes to others (liabilities) and what belongs to the owners (equity). Unlike the profit and loss account, which covers a period, the balance sheet captures a single moment, and assets must always equal liabilities plus equity.

Assets include things like the bank balance, invoices pending collection, or equipment; liabilities cover debts to suppliers, the tax agency, or the bank; equity holds the capital contributed plus accumulated results. For an SL, the balance sheet is part of the annual accounts filed each year with the Companies Register (Registro Mercantil).
