Ingresos extraordinarios (extraordinary income)

Ingresos extraordinarios is, in the accounting vocabulary inherited from the 1990 Spanish chart of accounts, profit that is unrelated to the ordinary activity and significant in amount. The 2007 Plan General de Contabilidad abolished the «extraordinary» category: today those amounts go to account 778, exceptional income, and form part of the operating result rather than a separate line.

Account 778 collects «profits and income of an exceptional nature and significant amount» that do not belong in any other group 7 account; the example the Plan itself gives is collecting a receivable that had been written off as definitively uncollectable. An insurance payout after an incident or a penalty charged to a supplier follow the same logic.

There is no special tax treatment: in an SL they are part of the accounting result from which the base imponible of the Impuesto de Sociedades starts (art. 10.3 LIS), and for an autónomo under estimación directa they count as business income like any other (art. 28 LIRPF). What does change is the profit and loss account: sitting in operations, they inflate the year's ordinary result, so it is worth explaining them in the notes.

The typical mistake is still looking for the old extraordinary results heading in the annual accounts or, the other way round, sending any one-off income to account 778 by default. A grant, the sale of a fixed asset or financial income each have their own accounts; 778 is only for what fits nowhere else.
